Congress Must Heed the Pleas of TPS Holders, Move Us Closer to a Pathway to Citizenship

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, as part of a week of action organized by the We Are Home coalition, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders are meeting with members of Congress to share their stories and discuss the need to extend and redesignate protections for eligible countries impacted by political, natural, and other humanitarian crises. Lia Parada, Director of Legislative Advocacy at the Immigration Hub, issued the following statement:

“Today, more than 100 TPS holders from across the country made an inspiring case on the need for members of Congress to deliver long overdue protections. Workers and families with TPS have become integral members of the American social fabric. When our country faced its darkest period - a pandemic that counted on essential workers to step up for our neighbors and local economies - individuals with TPS stood shoulder to shoulder with fellow Americans to keep our nation afloat as critical members of the labor force. We cannot turn our backs on them when they need us the most— denying them protection from deportation would put them at risk of returning to countries with high-risk political and humanitarian conditions that could upend their lives. President Biden must also step in where Congress has dragged its feet and extend and redesignate TPS for those who cannot return to their home countries and call America home.”
