Press Call: Rep. Pete Aguilar Joins DACA Recipients and Immigration Advocates to Underscore Urgency for Congressional Action on Citizenship Now

WASHINGTON, DC - In response to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling against the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, United We Dream Action, Immigration Hub, FWD.us, and Justice Action Center will host a press call today, October 6 at 2:30 PM EST to urge Congress to pass permanent protections to protect immigrant youth. Congressman Pete Aguilar (D-CA), Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus and a leader on immigration within the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, will be one of the speakers.

DACA temporarily remains in place but the Fifth Circuit remanded the case back to Judge Hanen. Judge Hanen, who has repeatedly ruled against DACA and similar programs, could decide imminently to terminate the program and most experts expect the Supreme Court to deliver a death blow to DACA next year.

The reality is that without legislation by the end of the year, DACA recipients are likely to lose their temporary status and work permits, subjecting them to losing their jobs and even worse the possibility of detention and deportation. With the program still on the chopping block, the experts and advocates on the call will underscore the need for Congress to step up now and pass permanent legislation.

WHEN: Thursday, October 06, 2022, at 2:30 pm ET.
