NEW ELECTION DAY POLL: Despite the Divisive Politics, Voters Want Congress to Protect Dreamers
By A 2-To-1 Margin, Voters Say They Support Congress Taking Immediate Action To Provide Permanent Legal Status To DACA Recipients and Dreamers
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, national groups representing a diversity of issues and communities, including the Immigration Hub, released their 2022 Midterm Voter Election Poll findings. Surveying over 12,000 voters on a number of kitchen-table issues, the poll found that the majority of the electorate supports pro-immigrant solutions, such as delivering legislative protections for Dreamers, rejecting extremism and xenophobia, and establishing a path to citizenship for hardworking immigrants.
“Once again the GOP has tried to divide America with a wave of anti-immigrant attacks but their message has fallen flat with everyone except their base. While most voters head to the polls with other issues top of mind, such as the economy and reproductive freedom, this new polling makes clear that the American people continue to support critical pro-immigrant policies by large margins,” said Sergio Gonzales, Executive Director of the Immigration Hub. “Despite the rampant right-wing attacks demonizing immigrants, a majority of voters and a majority of Latinos want our leaders to deliver common sense, values-based immigration solutions. And they can start right now. Congress can deliver a big win for Dreamers and America with a bipartisan deal before the courts terminate DACA.”

Key poll findings include:
Voters across all racial and ethnic groups – including 82% of Latino voters – want Congress to take up protections for Dreamers in the lame duck. By a 2-to-1 margin, (68% to 32%) voters say they support Congress taking immediate action to provide permanent legal status to DACA recipients and Dreamers.
There is also enduring majority support for broader immigration reform among all racial/ethnic groups. 63% of white voters and 77% of Latino voters say they support creating a permanent legal status and a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.
Support for a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrant remains high among Latino voters in battleground states: Texas (77%), Pennsylvania (69%), Arizona (78%), Nevada (68%), Florida (75%), Colorado (76%), North Carolina (86%), and Georgia (89%).
Voters reject extremism and xenophobia: A majority of white voters (52%), Black (73%) and Latino voters (67%) say they are worried about extreme Republicans who refuse to condemn white nationalists and extremists who promote hate and attacks against minorities and immigrants.
An overwhelming majority of Latino voters (71%) said they support an immigration system that removes unnecessary barriers for working people who want to contribute, establishes a path to citizenship for hardworking immigrants, and ensures a safe and orderly border.
About the 2022 Midterm Election Voter Poll
The 2022 Midterm Voter Election Poll, conducted by the African American Research Collaborative (AARC), is a large-scale poll of Black, Latino, Asian American, American Indian, and White voters nationally and in key states and congressional districts sponsored by Planned Parenthood Action Fund, SEIU, UnidosUS, Latino Community Foundation, First Nations Development Institute, Climate Power, The Immigration Hub, Indivisible, Rural Organizing, Voter Participation Center, America’s Voice and Mi Familia Vota Education Fund. The election poll is contacting 12,500 people who already have voted or are definitely voting in the final days before the November 2022 election, offering exclusive information about the electorate, including Congressional, Senate and Gubernatorial vote choices, issue priorities, and evaluations of both major parties and what issues motivated voter turnout. The overall poll has a margin of error of 0.9%. The poll also includes data from crucial battleground states, including Florida, Georgia, Texas, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Arizona, Pennsylvania, California, Colorado, and Nevada, as well as a national sample.
