Data to Disrupt’s Top Ten Data Hits

06 NOV 2022

1. Crazy in “love” with immigration

This cycle, the GOP has been pushing anti-immigrant themes to energize their base, and it’s notably top of mind for them but not for the majority of voters.

2. Don’t you know that you’re toxic?

The Immigration Hub tested a “Citizens for Sanity” ad on crime & immigration with battleground voters. It rallied the GOP troops: rural, ultra conservative and Trump voters. Stephen Miller’s group has spent $51 million+. But here’s the kicker: it created a backlash with key voters.

3. Look how far we’ve come: Immigrants, we get the job done

Poll after poll after poll after poll… it’s clear most voters want Congress to act on a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, farm workers and other immigrants in America. And with the courts set to terminate DACA, it’s now or never to deliver!

4. Ride into the danger zone

America’s Voice identified more than 700 examples of Republicans echoing domestic terrorists and spreading the white nationalist “invasion” and “replacement” conspiracies. This includes 80 candidates up for federal or statewide election this November, as well as the top GOP PACs.

5. It’s the same old song

According to the Immigration Hub, right-wing media is obsessed with talking immigration, nearly thousands of times a day – with over 57,000 mentions in 2022. Their “border crisis” narrative influenced mainstream outlets who amassed approximately 20,000 border mentions this year!

6. Rolling in the deep… with the border

GOP extremists have been pushing their nativist “open borders” hyperbole all year. A survey of 350 Twitter accounts for GOP candidates and elected officials found that they mentioned the border more than inflation and crime combined.

7. This is America the GOP

Tracking from America’s Voice found that GOP candidates and groups distributed thousands of paid communications – from ads to mailers – that attacked Democrats by demonizing immigrants and falsely painting a chaotic border.

8. Well, it ain’t alright because we hate the way you lie

On the debate stage, aside from attacks on inflation, GOP candidates used disingenuous attacks and incendiary language about the border and immigration to rally their base and to distract and pivot away from topics where Democrats have a clear advantage.

9. The dark side of the money

Right-wing candidates and groups have been doubling down on anti-immigrant language in ads. With only glimpses into their spending on TV,  it’s anyone’s guess how much they’ve spent on digital, mailers, radio, etc. Billions spent, but where and on what is frighteningly unclear.

10. His mind is in disturbia

The Data to Disrupt team voted Stephen Miller and his cohort at “Citizens for Sanity” as the most xenophobic advertiser to date. From depicting Black Americans and immigrants as criminals to spreading fears over racism against white people… we are officially disturbed.
