Immigration Hub: “This is not a one-off or the end of immigration’s story.”
Washington, DC — In response to the Senate Parliamentarian’s decision on immigration in reconciliation,
Kerri Talbot, Deputy Directory of the Immigration Hub, issued the following statement:
“This is not the end of the process. As we’ve said before, this is not a one-off. We have always known that this would be a back and forth where we would have to present several options. What we know is true: a path to permanent residency and citizenship has a significant budgetary impact, great bipartisan support, and – above all – it is critical to America’s recovery. We will continue to work with members of Congress to ensure that millions of undocumented immigrants can have lasting protections.”
The Immigration Hub’s Executive Director, Sergio Gonzales, also stated:
“The decision is not the final straw. We are optimistic because we are confident in our case and in this fight; there are still options on the table. This has been the culmination of over three decades of work and failure is simply not an option. A solution for our undocumented immigrants to be able to access permanent protections has a critical and indisputable budgetary impact. Experts agree that a pathway to permanent residency and citizenship will boost our economy and wages, and is absolutely essential for our economic recovery. Democrats must continue to move forward with the viable options they have in hand. It is both politically and economically imperative they deliver on this promise in 2021.”
