Immigration Hub: Americans Support Total Reset of Immigration Priorities as Directed by Biden Executive Order Issued on Biden’s First Day in Office Revokes Trump’s Weaponized Deportation Force
WASHINGTON, D.C.— President Joe Biden today signed a series of Executive Orders, one of which revokes harsh and extreme immigration enforcement priorities previously set by the Trump administration. In response, Kerri Talbot, Deputy Director of the Immigration Hub, issued the following statement:
“For four long years, Trump sought to divide communities by scapegoating immigrants and unleashing a slew of harsh enforcement priorities including the horrific separation of families at the border. The American people want to turn the page on the Trump administration’s xenophobia and voters overwhelmingly agree with Biden’s plans to review and reset immigration policies to align with our values.
“Actions taken today will allow the Biden-Harris administration to begin establishing a fair, humane immigration system while overhauling broken policies exacerbated under Trump. We welcome the executive orders and legislation released on the first day of the Biden-Harris administration and urge them to make the sweeping reforms necessary to transform immigration in this country, ensuring a path to citizenship and other humane initiatives that will turn the page on Trump’s cruelty and help America’s recovery.”
According to recent polling released by the Immigration Hub, nearly 60% of voters in battleground states support a “pause on deportations so that the Department of Homeland Security can review and reset their enforcement policies.” (Civiqs polled 6,967 registered voters in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin from December 18-25, 2020.)
