Immigration Hub Responds to the Biden Administration’s Planned Executive Order on Immigration

WASHINGTON – According to a recent report, President Biden is considering executive action aimed to curb migration at the southern border. The order could heighten the standard for migrants applying for asylum and prioritize the swift deportation of those who do not qualify.
Immigration Hub Executive Director Kerri Talbot issued the following statement in response:
“The Biden administration should ensure that any border security executive action protects due process for asylum seekers and provides resources for a fair, efficient and humane asylum system. An asylum ban would be misguided and illegal. Americans want an orderly system at the border that protects access to asylum.
“Immigration Hub remains committed to advocating for policies that can better promote order without sacrificing humanity–such as those laid out in our 2024 Blueprint report. An effective approach on immigration would strike this balance, coupling measures that bolster border security–for example, expanding capacity at official ports of entry and at USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services)–and that provide legal pathways for long-time undocumented immigrants already contributing to American communities, such as Dreamers and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recipients. These solutions would not only be effective, but popular with key voting groups this November. We continue calling on President Biden and on sensible members of Congress to lead with this approach and advance effective immigration reforms ahead of the 2024 election.”
