Immigration Hub Statement on Introduction of the SECURE Act
WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Immigration Hub’s Deputy Director Kerri Talbot issued the following statement in response to the introduction of the Safe Environment from Countries Under Repression and Emergency (SECURE) Act by Senator Chris Van Hollen:
“We’re glad to see the introduction of the SECURE Act to provide permanent protection from deportation and establish a pathway to citizenship for those with Temporary Protected Status (TPS). Hundreds of thousands of TPS holders are longtime members of their communities. They have purchased homes, raised families, opened businesses and thousands have been working in essential jobs during the pandemic. Granting them citizenship is not only the right thing to do but it is a critical component of our country’s recovery efforts. We thank Senator Van Hollen for introducing this legislation and we urge Congress to swiftly pass the bill.”
