Immigration Hub Statement on Vice President Harris Selecting Governor Tim Walz as Her Running Mate

Today, Vice President Harris announced her pick of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate in the upcoming presidential election.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Vice President Harris announced her pick of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate in the upcoming presidential election. In response, Kerri Talbot, Executive Director of the Immigration Hub, issued the following statement.

“We are encouraged that Governor Tim Walz will run alongside Vice President Harris in the upcoming election. Walz has a keen understanding of immigration from his notable experience supporting immigrant communities and standing up against Donald Trump’s dangerous immigration policies. In his capacity as Governor and as a representative in Congress, Walz repeatedly advocated for immigrants. He has allowed undocumented Minnesotans to obtain driver licenses, pushed back against the Trump administration’s “build the wall” rhetoric, and implemented a tuition-free college program accessible to undocumented students. He is a strong defender of Dreamers, issuing a statement against the Trump administration’s attempted reversal of DACA in 2017.

“There is so much at stake for American families, including immigrants, in the upcoming election, from mass deportation to the continued use of “Great Replacement” and “invasion” rhetoric on the national stage. Like Vice President Kamala Harris, Governor Walz believes in keeping families together. His leadership will be invaluable as we work together to create an immigration system that is fair, humane and well managed.”
