J.D. Vance Joins Architect of Family Separation at RNC as Biden-Harris Roll Out Action to Keep Families Together
An ardent supporter of Trump’s cruel Project 2025 agenda, J.D. Vance’s record on immigration is marked by nativism while Vice President Harris leads on balanced solutions
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tonight, GOP Vice Presidential candidate Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) will give remarks at the Republican National Convention, formally joining a ticket that promises to wreak havoc on immigrant communities and American families alike. He’ll share the stage with Thomas Homan, a former Trump administration official and architect of the cruel “zero tolerance” policy that saw children separated from their parents at the border. As Vance and his extremist allies prepare to lay out their vision for an even more egregious assault on immigrants in 2025, including mass deportations and sweeping raids, Vice President Kamala Harris joined President Biden today in announcing the roll out of their immigration actions that will keep families together, empower Dreamers to live and work in the U.S., and provide access to crucial services like legal representation.
“With Vance and Homan on the national stage, the GOP is quite clearly telling the American people that family separation is and will be part of their agenda to upend the lives of millions of families in our nation. It wasn’t enough to tear children away from their mothers and fathers at the border under Trump’s tenure; now, they plan to finish the job by separating families within our communities. Their vision for our immigration system is unleashing government officials to raid neighborhoods, churches, schools, and workplaces and detain and deport en masse. Make no mistake, Trump, Vance and their Project 2025 allies have a dark vision for our democracy and immigration system – it’s not just rhetoric, it’s their gameplan,” said Beatriz Lopez, Immigration Hub Deputy Director.
In stark contrast, since her tenure as a Senator and Attorney General of California, and now as the Vice President, VP Kamala Harris has been one of the nation’s foremost leaders on immigration reform, efforts to combat transnational crime, and strengthen border security. Vance has echoed Trump’s nativist record, endorsing Project 2025 and mass deportation and detention of Dreamers and long-settled immigrants while blocking bipartisan efforts to fix our immigration system in his short time in the Senate.
