North Carolina Mayors Respond to Trump-Vance Visits: “America is Better Than This”

Mass deportations would separate North Carolina families and devastate the state’s economy
NORTH CAROLINA – Donald Trump and J.D. Vance are taking their anti-immigrant agenda to the Tar Heel State this week, doubling down on their divisive rhetoric and promises of mass deportations. Experts agree that their cruel policies would harm North Carolina’s immigrant communities, disrupt the economy, and threaten the livelihoods of all families across the state–though Vance refused to acknowledge this reality while in Raleigh. As former President Trump prepares for his Wilmington rally this weekend, two North Carolina mayors are speaking out against his dangerous rhetoric and destructive policy agenda.
Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin:
“We are a country of immigrants, built by immigrants. There is a place for everyone in our country. People should be welcomed. And the fact is, we also need immigrants to be part of our workforce. The rhetoric around hate and anger related to our immigrant community has no place in our society.”
Durham Mayor Leo Williams:
“Trump’s immigration agenda is a thinly veiled attack on the values that have built this nation. His dangerous policies fuel fear and division while targeting the very people who contribute to our communities and economy. America is better than this, and it’s time we rise against such divisive politics.”
