Senate to Vote on Budget Proposal Funding Mass Disappearances
3 APRIL 2025
The administration’s requested budget includes up to $350 billion to turbocharge mass disappearances, militarizing communities and propping up dangerous foreign prisons
Washington, D.C. – After meeting with Donald Trump, Senate Republicans have lined up behind a budget resolution that includes the administration’s staggering $350 billion request to fund mass disappearances, expand militarized enforcement, and bankroll overseas detention operations—including Bukele’s dangerous prison camps in El Salvador.
If adopted, the budget resolution would supercharge the erosion of democracy: undermining due process and increasing the targeting of millions of immigrant community members. Under this proposal, the U.S. would continue to put long-settled immigrants, U.S. citizen children, and mixed-status families directly in harm’s way—all while draining resources from real national needs like healthcare, education, and economic security.
Statement from Beatriz Lopez, Co-Executive Director of the Immigration Hub:
“Just a reminder: Trump’s $350 billion request is 16 times larger than what he asked for in 2018. Even so, the human cost is unimaginable. If Congress writes that check, it will fling the door open to an authoritarian future where cruelty is the norm and due process is optional. This billionaire budget rigs the system against working families, slashing Medicaid and other critical programs to bankroll the disappearances and deportations of students, mothers, and fathers. No democracy should be in the business of sending its people to foreign slave prisons.
“At a time when working families are struggling with the cost of living, Republicans are willing to gut food, education and health care lifelines to see more families shattered, more parents ripped from their children’s lives, entire neighborhoods paralyzed by terror. No one in America should live wondering if today is the day they vanish. This is not a budget. It’s a blueprint for a country we wouldn’t recognize.”
