Immigration Hub: House Democrats’ Stimulus Proposal Protects Country By Protecting All Families Regardless of Immigration Status

Heroes Act Fills Major Gaps Left By Prior Relief Packages

For Immediate Release: May 12, 2020

WASHINGTONThe following is a statement from Kerri Talbot, Director of Federal Advocacy for the Immigration Hub, in response to the House Democratic proposal, the Heroes Act:

“We welcome the new Democratic stimulus package proposal that fills major gaps left by prior relief efforts, including health care and economic protections for all communities, regardless of immigration status.

“Notably, the Heroes Act does what the Trump Administration and Republicans have failed to do: protect and extend relief to all families and essential workers, including green card holders, Dreamers, TPS-holders, and undocumented communities.

“As the nation faces a rising death toll and economic challenges, we commend Democratic efforts and urge them to continue prioritizing all families and critical workers on the frontlines, including millions of immigrants risking their lives to feed, serve, and care for all Americans. By explicitly including immigrant families in the collective effort to combat the consequences of this pandemic, we all benefit and prevail as a stronger nation.”
