The Immigration Hub Applauds CHC Following Today’s Meeting President Biden
WASHINGTON, DC – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) met with President Biden today to discuss priorities for the Latino community, including the termination of Title 42 and executive action priorities. Sergio Gonzales, Executive Director of the Immigration Hub, issued the following statement:
“Today, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) underscored why Congress President Biden and his administration must remain steadfast in its decision to terminate the failed Trump policy, Title 42. Any legislation to keep Title 42 in place would defy both science and a commonsense approach to order and justice at the border.
“The Biden-Harris administration has made commendable progress to expand opportunity and fairness for Latinos, including immigrants. However, much remains to be done and Latino voters are watching. This includes more clearly articulating their plan to better manage our border and moving forward humane policies that respect the dignity of every person, regardless of their immigration status.
“Latinos expect Congress and President Biden to commit and deliver immigration solutions that will empower businesses and the people. As we face economic challenges, CHC leaders are right to point out how executive actions, such Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and protections for Dreamers and other immigrant communities, are critical to mending our economy and inspiring American morale. Immigrant workers have stood along so many of our neighborhood heroes who are working hard for their families and local economies. We cannot let the rhetoric of division and hate get in the way of broader immigration reform that looks not just at our borders, but centers a path to citizenship for the millions of undocumented immigrants who have been waiting for Congress to act for nearly forty years.”
