Trump Cements Plans to End Birthright Citizenship And Separate Families in 2025

When asked if he’d deport long-settled immigrants in the U.S., Trump said: “You have to do it.

Washington, D.C – Yesterday, in an interview with Meet the Press, President Donald Trump cemented his plans to upend the U.S. constitution and terrorize American families in his next term, promising to terminate birthright citizenship and deport millions of long-settled undocumented immigrants already working and living in the U.S. His comments reaffirm a commitment to an agenda that would devastate the U.S. economy, shatter countless families, and undermine the democratic values that define our nation.

In response, Beatriz Lopez, Co-Executive Director of the Immigration Hub, released the following statement:

“Every Congress since 2013 has had opportunities to pass bipartisan legislation to truly reform our immigration system with smart border security measures and pathways to citizenship for long-settled immigrants like Dreamers. Yet, Trump and Republicans have consistently undermined efforts to compromise in favor of extreme policies that tear apart American families and chip away at our democracy.

We recognize this setup: dangling the possibility of citizenship for Dreamers in exchange for an end to birthright citizenship and the deportation of millions of long-settled immigrant communities–that’s not a compromise; it’s a ransom note.”
