Vice President Harris Highlights Plans to Keep Families Together in 2025
In her acceptance speech, Harris called for a balanced approach to immigration, in sharp contrast to Donald Trump’s extremist plan to rip families apart
Washington, D.C. – Tonight, in her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, Vice President Harris addressed her vision for immigration in 2025. She underscored our country’s history as a nation of immigrants and highlighted the urgent need for immigration reform that includes both securing our border and creating an earned path to citizenship.
In response, Immigration Hub Executive Director Kerri Talbot issued the following statement:
“As the proud daughter of immigrants, Vice President Kamala Harris deeply understands the need for a modern immigration system that humanely addresses border security and provides paths to citizenship for long-settled undocumented immigrants like Dreamers, farmworkers, and caregivers. Tonight, as the official Democratic nominee, she made a commitment to address those needs as the next President of the United States.
It is unacceptable that today’s Republican party either cannot or will not earnestly engage on immigration solutions. Rather, they’re content to invest their time and resources on baseless, xenophobic messaging in order to preserve their preferred electoral wedge. Such a strategy is not only deeply unpopular, it’s dangerous for the wellbeing of our nation.
“From her work as Vice President, including the administration’s recent executive order keeping families together, to her appearances on the campaign trail, to her remarks tonight, Kamala Harris understands what voters overwhelmingly know: we are and will always be a nation of immigrants. And if we’re to retain our shining position atop the hill, we need a reformed immigration system that can ensure safety, security, and stability for all.
“We look forward to hearing more about the Harris-Walz vision for immigration over the next few months and working together when they are in the White House to implement it.”
