Trump Strips Legal Protections From 500k Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans

Despite evidence of success, Trump ends parole for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans—putting lives, communities, and local economies at risk

Washington, D.C. – Over the weekend, the Trump administration announced it will end legal protections for more than 530,000 people from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela who entered the U.S. through the Biden-era parole program. Data from FWD.us show that individuals who arrived under the parole process were working, self-sufficient, and filling critical labor shortages in cities across 27 states—all while easing pressure on the southern border and local governments.

Ending this program dismantles one of the few orderly, humane alternatives to unauthorized migration and marks yet another step in Trump’s sweeping deportation agenda, which targets millions—regardless of how long they’ve lived here, what communities they serve, or whether they arrived through legal channels. With protections already stripped from nearly a million Temporary Protected Status holders, reports now suggest Ukrainians could be the next group targeted.

Statement from Beatriz Lopez, Co-Executive Director of the Immigration Hub:

“Trump isn’t just targeting undocumented immigrants—he’s coming for legal immigration too, punishing families who followed every rule and tearing down orderly, secure pathways. The CHNV parole program offered a rare glimpse of what works: people fleeing violence, passing background checks, finding sponsors, and quickly becoming part of the fabric of American life. Instead of building on that success, Trump is ripping it away—because he doesn’t want a system that works, he wants a system he can control.

As he purges long-settled immigrants and dismantles humanitarian protections, Trump is moving the nation closer to a country where due process is optional, dissent is punished, and legal status means nothing. He’s not just closing doors—he’s rewriting the story of who belongs here, erasing decades of progress to clear the way for a new authoritarian order.”
