Immigration Hub: Joe Biden Victory Signals Voters Reject Xenophobia, Power of Multiracial Majority Swings Nation to Build an Inclusive America

WASHINGTON, D.C.The following is a statement from Tyler Moran, Executive Director of the Immigration Hub, in response to the electoral victory by Vice President Joe Biden:

“Joe Biden’s decisive victory in critical battleground states is a rebuke of President Trump and everything he represents. An emerging, multiracial electorate swung our country towards a new course to build a more inclusive America that rejects Trump and the GOP’s agenda of hate, exclusion, and fear.

“President-elect Biden received millions more votes than any candidate for President in history, offering a mandate for a new direction. Today, we also celebrate history made - the first Black woman and first woman of South Asian descent who will stand as vice president of the United States of America.

“Trump’s administration will be forever stained by the legacies of family separation at the border, attempts to deport Dreamers and other immigrant families, and a wasteful vanity wall. His administration not only perpetrated human rights violations throughout his term, the President’s racist and divisive rhetoric mainstreamed the darkest ideologies in our nation.

“Our country can now look forward to a new Administration which will value diversity over homogeneity, humanity over brutality, common sense over erraticism. Our immigration system was broken long before Trump came into office, and we must take immediate action to make the sweeping reforms necessary to transform immigration in this country, ensuring a path to citizenship and other humane initiatives that will turn the page on Trump’s cruelty and help America’s recovery. Our work is not over, it’s just beginning, and we must do it together.”
