Immigration Hub Statement on Bill Introduced by Senators Cornyn and Sinema

WASHINGTON, D.C.— In response to an immigration bill introduced today by Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), the Bipartisan Border Solutions Act, Kerri Talbot, Deputy Director of the Immigration Hub issued the following statement:

“Congress must pass a path to citizenship for immigrant youth, Temporary Protected Status holders, and immigrant workers and families. This Cornyn-Sinema bill does not go far enough in making the required changes and upgrades to our immigration system. The bill’s glaring omission of a pathway to citizenship and measures to address root causes of migration is a major red flag. Senator Cornyn should commit to voting for the Dream Act and the SECURE Act in the Senate if he is serious about bipartisan reforms to our immigration system.

“Unfortunately, we have all seen this show before— our colleagues at America’s Voice have aptly coined the tired act as the ‘Cornyn Con.’ Senator Cornyn has refused to cosponsor the Dream Act but will inevitably throw his hands up with claims of Democratic obstruction. Meanwhile, Democrats are already advancing legislation that grants a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, TPS holders, farm workers and other essential workers to help power our country’s economic recovery. Senator Cornyn and his colleagues can choose to work with us, or get left behind with the radical nativist wing of their party.
