Immigration Hub Responds to Build Back Better Act’s Immigration Provisions

Washington, DC — On Wednesday, House Democrats released the text of the Build Back Better Act, including a revised immigration proposal that would offer work permits and protection from deportation for over seven million immigrants.

In response, Kerri Talbot, the Immigration Hub’s Deputy Director, issued the following statement:

“Thanks to Democratic members of Congress, including immigrant rights champions in the CHC, who have committed to including immigration in reconciliation, House Democrats have moved forward an immigration permit program that will protect millions of families from deportation and ensure that immigrant workers can continue to aid America’s recovery.

“We will never walk away from our ultimate goal — a pathway to citizenship for undocumented families. But we are at significant crossroads, where we can either offer peace of mind to millions of families who seek to live, work and travel without the fear of deportation or fail to once again deliver a transformative solution. The choice is clear: Democrats must pass legislation that will provide protections to millions. Anything short of the immigration provisions that were included in the House bill today would be unacceptable. We call on all members of Congress to vote for the Build Back Better bill and secure it’s swift passage.”
