ICE Adds Fast Tracking of Deportations to Trump’s Reelection Tactics

WASHINGTON, D.C.— In reaction to reporting that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has implemented a new policy to fast track deportations of immigrants who have been in the US for less than two years, Tyler Moran, Executive Director of the Immigration Hub, issued the following statement:

“With less than a month until election day and Trump sinking in the polls, the Trump campaign is returning to its comfort zone and framing immigrants as threats to the country in an attempt to prop up the president and turn out his base. The sole intention of this policy, which was previously blocked by a federal judge, is to terrorize immigrant communities.  And with 27 days left until election day, it is clear that this is part of his effort to suppress the Latinx vote.

“Additionally, the administration has placed tax-payer funded billboards along Pennsylvania highways and threatened to target ‘sanctuary cities’ for enforcement operations.  The American public overwhelmingly rejected Trump’s immigration ‘caravan’ strategy in 2018 and when Trump loses in November, it will in part be due to voters again rejecting his strategy of fear and stoking racial tension.”
