Immigration Hub Responds to Extremist GOP Effort to Impeach DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas

WASHINGTON – Last week, U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) introduced articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. A vote on whether to advance the measure is expected today in the House.

In response, Lia Parada, Chief Advocacy Officer for the Immigration Hub, issued the following statement:

“Once again, extremist House Republicans are resorting to cheap political theater in order to distract the American public from their own dysfunction. Representative Greene’s (R-GA) resolution to oust Secretary Mayorkas, the fourth attempt from GOP lawmakers this year, recycles stale right-wing theories that have no factual basis but please a fringe base nonetheless. It is clear that House Republicans have no serious solutions for the broken immigration system, only an endless parade of performances they hope will secure them another soundbite on Fox News.

“President Biden has already made substantial progress expanding legal pathways for immigrants and their families and bringing order to the southern border, but his administration cannot fix the system alone. The nation remains sorely in need of true, bipartisan immigration reform that invests in both humane, orderly processes at the border and provides a path to legal status for undocumented immigrant communities, including Dreamers and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, long-settled in the U.S.–and the majority of voters agree. Unfortunately, as their latest political stunt shows, the GOP is more focused on politics than policy. Democrats in Congress are ready to deliver real solutions, when will Republicans be?”
