Immigration Hub Statement on House Judiciary Committee Markup of Immigration Legislation

Washington, DC – The United States House Committee on the Judiciary on Monday completed its markup of the legislative proposal associated with the budget reconciliation bill, including a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, farmworkers, TPS holders and essential workers. In response, Immigration Hub’s Executive Director Sergio Gonzales released the following statement:

“Today’s successful markup is a critical step forward in fulfilling what is long overdue - a path to citizenship that recognizes the enormous contributions of Dreamers, farm workers, TPS holders and essential workers. Citizenship for these vital members of our communities is a win for America. Economists support it; businesses and workers see its value; rural communities need it; and the American people want it.

“While Democrats are prioritizing a truly equitable and inclusive budget for all Americans, Republicans once again showed their cards today. During the markup, it was clear that Republicans are not interested in a good-faith discussion about the clear merits of a pathway to citizenship, but continue to obstruct, race-bait, and spread unfounded conspiracy and misinformation in their effort to divide America and score political points. It’s a broken record of their greatest hits of hate.

“We look forward to crossing the finish line this year to ensure that countless families can celebrate this major milestone in American history.”
