Immigration Hub Statement on Bills Granting Pathway to Citizenship for Dreamers, TPS holders and Agricultural Workers

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Below is a statement from Kerri Talbot, Deputy Director of the Immigration Hub, on the introductions of the Dream and Promise Act and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act:

“We’re elated to see the introduction of both the Dream and Promise Act and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act. These bills are critical building blocks towards our goal of establishing a pathway to citizenship for all 11 million undocumented people living in the U.S. Throughout the pandemic, farmworkers have risked their own health and safety in order to keep our grocery stores stocked with fresh food. Similarly, Dreamers and those with Temporary Protected Status are working on the frontlines of the pandemic as medical professionals, domestic workers and other essential roles that have kept our country moving forward. For far too long, especially over the last four years, Dreamers, TPS holders and undocumented immigrants working in the agricultural industry have lived in constant fear of being deported from the country they contribute to and call home. Not only were these bills already passed by the House in the last Congress, they also enjoy broad support from faith organizations, business leaders, and a bipartisan majority of voters. While we join our partners in calling for the swift passage of both bills, we’re mindful that this is only the first step in rebuilding a more just immigration system and establishing a pathway to citizenship for all undocumented communities.”
