As Biden Responds with Immigration Solutions, Republican Hypocrisy Enables Alex Jones Attack on Migrant Children

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Following the release of a shocking video of Alex Jones attacking a vehicle carrying migrant children from the Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley, Sergio Gonzales, Executive Director of the Immigration Hub issued the following statement:

“The dangerous and disgusting attack on children by Alex Jones and his gang of conspiracy theorists is beyond reprehensible and stands in direct opposition to our country’s values of treating people with dignity and respect. Jones not only traumatized these children with his reckless actions but also further victimized them by recording and releasing footage of the interaction. What we’re seeing is a direct result of the inflammatory rhetoric long spewed by Donald Trump and continued by  the likes of Stephen Miller, Ted Cruz, Kevin McCathy and all other Republicans who have been parading along the southern border and demagoguing migrants seeking asylum. This stunt is beyond unacceptable and the GOP must condemn these attacks perpetrated in their name.

“Where were Republicans when families were separated under Trump’s administration? Just recently, we learned that the Biden task force found 5,600 files that may help identify the families of children who have yet to be reunited. The Republican hypocrisy on this matter is gross politicking at its best, and at its worst it dangerously enables actions from sycophants like Alex Jones.  

“These Republicans need to stop exploiting the serious situation at the border that is aptly being handled by President Biden. The new administration is advancing  solutions to manage the migration at the border and beyond our borders. Today, President Biden rolled out his discretionary funding request which includes $861 million in aid to Central America for programs to address the root causes of migration-- key programs that were left severely underfunded by the GOP.

“Either Republicans continue their Rio Grande boat tours or come to the table and deliver on popular solutions that improve legal immigration channels, address the root causes of migration and deliver citizenship for Dreamers, farm workers, TPS holders and immigrant workers who have helped energize our economic recovery. Choice is theirs, but one thing is clear, the Biden-Harris administration isn’t waiting, they’re already delivering.”
