Trump and His Republican Accomplices Abandon Millions of Families with No End to the Pandemic or Economic Collapse in Sight

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to President Donald Trump and his Republican colleagues deciding to walk away from negotiating a coronavirus relief bill and terminating any chance at providing much needed assistance to struggling families, Kerri Talbot, Director of Federal Advocacy at the Immigration Hub, issued the following statement:

“Today’s actions by President Donald Trump erased all doubts about Republican priorities and values. Rather than negotiating in good faith with Democrats to provide critical relief to struggling families and businesses across the country, Republicans will instead focus on jamming a Supreme Court nominee through the Senate so she can strip healthcare from Americans in the middle of a public health crisis.

“Since the start of the pandemic, immigrant families have been excluded from receiving health and economic assistance and by refusing to work on relief efforts, Republicans are guaranteeing that essential workers and our immigrant neighbors will continue to be left to fend for themselves. Without a coronavirus relief bill, the GOP is denying critical economic relief to 7.8 million U.S. citizens simply because someone in their household is an immigrant.

“Immigrant essential workers can’t simply quit and walk away from their jobs in health care, agriculture, and other critical industries like Republicans can walk away from a COVID deal. Simply put, it is unacceptable that the president and his Republican accomplices are allowed to ignore the needs of millions of families trying to make ends meet in the midst of the worst economic and health crisis of our time.”
