Immigration Hub Statement on White House Appointment of Immigration Advocacy Expert Alida Garcia

WASHINGTON— Today, the White House announced the appointment of Alida Garcia, former Vice President of Advocacy at FWD.us, as Senior Adviser For Migration Outreach And Engagement. In response, Sergio Gonzales, Executive Director of the Immigration Hub issued the following statement:

“The Biden-Harris administration continues to bring on the best and brightest staff to advance the president’s immigration agenda— this time with the hiring of our partner and good friend Alida Garcia. The appointment of Garcia demonstrates the seriousness by this White House in fixing the mess left behind by the prior administration. She has years of  experience leading key legislative and advocacy efforts with a wide range of organizations and elected leaders from across the political spectrum, and has been a champion on issues of diversity, equity and inclusion. This will be invaluable not only to the White House but to all those interested in building an immigration system that actually works and is rooted in justice.

“Garcia’s grit and expertise will add to an exemplary team working around the clock to implement a bold and necessary plan to transform our immigration system. This includes more effectively managing our border through policies that are fair, humane and commonsense and passing legislation this year to provide a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. We look forward to working with Alida in her new role.”
