Immigration Hub: Senate Republicans Advance Disastrous Chad Wolf, Full Senate Body Should Reject Nomination

Abuses of Immigrants and Disastrous Immigration Policies Under Wolf’s Watch Disqualify Him From Becoming Secretary of DHS

WASHINGTON, D.C.The following is a statement from Kerri Talbot, Director of Federal Advocacy for the Immigration Hub, in response to the advancement of Chad Wolf by Senate Republicans:

“We are very disappointed that Senate Republicans on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee voted today to advance Chad Wolf’s nomination to become Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. The full Senate should vote to reject Chad Wolf’s nomination and with it the xenophobic and abusive policies that have marred his time with the department.

“Not only is the legality of Wolf’s past stewardship of DHS questionable, his time at the department has been marked by scandal and abuses of the most vulnerable members of our society. Rather than institute fair and humanitarian policies, Wolf has been more concerned with President Trump’s image.

“A vehement rejection of Wolf is the only reasonable action that Senators should take. Congress and the Trump administration need to address the abuses of immigrants at our border and in detention, violence against protesters in our cities, and the misconduct and offenses by agencies that shoulder little accountability under Wolf’s leadership.”
