House GOP Budget Passes: A Betrayal of American Families
25 FEBRUARY 2025
Every dollar spent targeting immigrant communities is a dollar stolen from programs that help working people thrive
Washington, D.C. – Today, House Republicans pushed through a budget resolution that allocates up to $200 billion to turbocharge Trump’s attacks on immigrant communities and working families. This budget guts essential programs like Medicaid, ACA benefits, Pell grants, and nutrition assistance in favor of a cruel, indiscriminate mass deportation agenda that targets families and militarizes communities nationwide. While it remains uncertain which budget resolution—House or Senate—will ultimately move forward, both would see devastating consequences for families, workers, and communities across the country.
Statement from Kerri Talbot, Co-Executive Director of the Immigration Hub:
“Today’s vote is a disgraceful endorsement of Trump’s extremist agenda—one that prioritizes fear over fairness and cruelty over common sense. Instead of investing in families, jobs, and a smart, humane immigration system, Republicans have chosen to spend billions tearing families and communities apart. This budget isn’t just an economic disaster—it’s a moral failure and a betrayal to American families. The fight is far from over, and we will continue to demand policies that reflect our nation’s true values: dignity, opportunity, and justice for all.”
